Week 1 Lesson Plan:
Day 1
  • Overview of Lab Procedures & Rules.
  • Logging into WCS computers. Username & password review.
  • Reminder of WCS Elementary Links (AKA Potted Plant icon)
  • Introduction to Tux Typing software.
  • Students practiced typing using Tux Typing 25 minutes.

Day 2
  • Reviewed Lab Procedures & Rules.
  • What are the benefits of typing vs handwritten work? (Class Discussion)
  • How might typing help you make fewer spelling mistakes? (Class Discussion)
  • Open Office (Word clone) concepts covered step-by-step: Opening the program, selecting "Text Document", "Enter" key function, Left-Center-Right Alignment.
  • Students were taught individually how to save their work.
  • Students still need help understanding the difference between Save As & Save.

Week 2 Lesson Plan
  • Computer Lab is being used for testing. Class was conducted in the Language Lab. Mini laptops were introduced and discussed.
  • What would you do to make an iPad better? (Class Discussion)
  • What will you think of Mr. Hartley's "NEW" phone in 5 years? (Class Discussion)
  • Compass Odyssey log-in practice.
  • Students did lessons from their learning path in Compass Odyssey (15 minutes)
  • Students were given the choice between Dancemat typing or Spelling City (10 minutes)

Week 3 Lesson Plan

Day 1
  • Computer Lab is being used for testing. Class was conducted in the Language Lab. Mini laptops were used.
  • Students were taught step-by-step how to log into Compass Odyssey. Log-in time: 10 minutes. Need to turn this into 2-3 minutes. Many students need to practice spelling their last names in order to access programs.
  • Compass Odyssey: 25 minutes using their learning paths. Choice of Math or Language Arts.
  • WCS Elementary Links: Free choice 10 minutes.
Day 2
  • Computer Lab is being used for testing. Class was conducted in the Language Lab. Mini laptops were used.
  • What is a "bug" when we are talking about technology? (Class Discussion)
  • What is the difference between Internet programs, and desktop programs? (Class Discussion)
  • Students worked on Dancemat Typing "Level 1, Stage 1" HOME ROW Practice (20 Minutes)
  • Students were checked individually for their home row finger placement.
  • Students are asked to go on Dancemat typing at home under parental supervision. Practice makes perfect!

Week 4 Lesson Plan

Day 1
  • Type To Learn 4 Pre-test was completed
  • TTL4 Lesson 1 completed.
